NEW ORLEANS - 2-18-2017

The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is ready for Mardi Gras. As they do every year, OPSO personnel will have an active role in protecting the public during Carnival.

Booking Bus

The OPSO Booking Bus opened in the French Quarter this weekend. It will be in the French Quarter next Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well. The booking bus is a convenient place for officers to bring arrestees, so that the officers can quickly get back to patrolling the streets of the French Quarter.

The OPSO booking bus will be staffed by deputies and a nurse who will start the intake and medical screening process. After an initial screening, arrestees will be placed in vans and transported to the OPSO intake center to complete the booking process.

OPSO Mounted Patrol Division

Starting Wednesday, Feb. 22, mounted patrol officers and their horses will be providing security along the St. Charles Avenue and Canal Street parade routes for night time parades. That same day, a second group of mounted Other mounted patrol officers will be providing mounted security along Bourbon Street. They will be at these locations through Mardi Gras Day.

To mark the end of the 2017 Mardi Gras season, the OPSO mounted patrol officers will join their law enforcement counterparts for the traditional close of Mardi Gras at midnight on Fat Tuesday.

Operation Lost Kids

Starting Saturday, Feb. 25, the OPSO Special Reserve Deputy Unit will open the Operation Lost Kids booth at St. Charles Avenue and Toledano Street. Special reserve deputies provide this public service in conjunction with the NOPD Juvenile Division which has safety booths at St. Charles and Napoleon Avenue and St. Charles and Jackson Avenue.
